Guide To Choosing A Business Intelligence Platform

In the age of “big data” it’s becoming more and more important for companies to find ways of consolidating data and visualizing it in a way that generates actionable insights. One popular way is to implement a Business Intelligence (“BI”) or Data Visualization platform. These platforms provide users with an at-a-glance view of key business metrics. Each person or department can have their own dashboard, with modules that present easy-to-read, user-friendly data.

Which Platform Is Best For Your Business

Fortunately for businesses, there are plenty of options out there and what you decide on for your organization depends on what you’re hoping to get out of the platform. Download our side-by-side comparison and overview of industry leaders.

Prove's Professional Opinion

  1. Domo

Domo is the Rolls Royce of BI platforms. The most user-friendly of these platforms, it also has beautiful data dashboards. It comes prepared with a vast array of platform integrations to cover the majority of marketing needs: paid search platforms, eCRM and marketing automation systems, social media sites, web analytics, eCommerce, etc. etc. The most common of these modules come ready to go, just plug and play, making it ideal for organizations with limited in-house development/programming resources. The catch is the budget.

Recommended for: large organizations who need to please lots of different stakeholders with limited development resources

  2. Tableau

Tableau has great potential to be a useful platform across departments within an organization, from marketing to supply chain management. Its dashboards are clean and easy to read. However, unlike Domo, most integrations require the help of someone well-versed in software development, database management, and API integrations. Like Domo, Tableau’s pricing is generally enterprise level.

Recommended for: larger tech-savvy organizations, with development resources

  3. Klipfolio

Klipfolio is the most flexible of the less-expensive packages, but requires a lot of hands on customizations and integrations. While there are plenty of out-of-the-box modules, you’ll likely need some custom tweaks, either within what you’re trying to integrate (like Google Analytics) or within the Klipfolio set up. While development knowledge is crucial, Excel formulas are even more critical with Klipfolio. Visualizations are user-friendly, and the flexibility of what’s shown is limited only to what you can get from an API.

Recommended for: mid-sized organizations who want to avoid huge license fees, but are willing to get their hands dirty with setup
